Before I begin to introduce you to Sapiens characters, I want to give you some background. The Sapiens are among those who refused to give up on technology, and who fled to the west two centuries ago (the famous «Split»).
Sapiens: intelligent, reasonable, wise, sensible.
It should be noted that the Sapiens have called themselves “Sapiens”.
For them to give up on technology would have been anything. Why throw away so much knowledge and knowledge?
Intelligents. Certes. Raisonnables ? Vraiment ?
To survive, the Sapiens were forced to adapt. They faced a hostile environment, which forced them to become nomads.
When they had established themselves as sedentary, it was a victory. Sapientia (« bon sens ») s’élevait désormais dans les plaines, brisant l’horizon, et rappelant à tous que les Sapiens étaient des survivants. Survivants ? Vraiment ?
In this flat environment, the Sapiens inexorably drew attention. Not as they had hoped. They were not the only survivors. The wildlife had adapted and was especially intelligent, beside to being excessively aggressive. Their most dreadful adversary was the raptor. Nowadays, it kept its place in the imaginary Sapiens. It is their “wolf”, their terrifying beast of Gevaudan…
Forced to flee these devious predators, who had evidently taken a liking to their flesh, the Sapiens resumed their journey to the west to sink into the mountains. In the year 35 after the Split, they founded Acritas («foresight», for the anecdote: the word also means «passion», the Sapiens thought of their love of science by naming it).
We are now in 200 A.S. (After Split), and this is where some Sapiens characters come into play…
