Scholars are part of the intellectual sapiens elite. Their role in the city is one of the highest accessible roles, along with that of Protector. They have to recover the knowledge lost before the Split, according to the directives received by the Sapiens Federator (the Tellus). They also have a secondary role as teachers in schools, as well as a medical role with the population.

Being part of the intellectual elite is not given to everyone. The Scholars take particular care in the education of their offspring, seeking to teach them very young to remain curious, open-minded, as to acquire a mathematical logic. There are also schools of scientific preparation reserved for members of the Knowledge Council, and the other children on file.

Nevertheless, it is possible for a child whose parents are not of this caste to succeed in this field. Indeed, it is common knowledge that middle castes pay relatively high prices for private teachers to allow them indirect access to the upper floors.

At the age of ten, all children, regardless of their social class, pass a competition. At the end of this classification, they are referred to a professional academy.

At the age of sixteen, the future Scholars begin their higher education, as well as the future Protectors, in a dedicated boarding school. They will pass their final assessments between eighteen and twenty years old avant d’être assignés à leur équipe, et ainsi à leur projet de recherche.

Every five years, the Scholar defends a Thesis and must demonstrate his expertise, in order to join the very private circle of the Scientific Council's symbol and rise to the rank of Scientist.

There are two specific ranks :

  • the Scholars, who are not part of the Scientific Council, but can work for them
  • The Scientists, who are members of the Scientific Council, working under the orders of the Tellus.

There is no large family of Scholars.

All the Scholars have a medallion indicating their membership in the intellectual elite: a toothed wheel hollowed out, with teeth oriented outwards, welcomes in its center a smooth ring. The ring, pierced from top to bottom, rotates around a vertical axis.

Scientist Council's medallion is similar to that of the Scholars, except that a ball in the center of the vertical axis stabilizes the perpetual movement of the medallion. This small element makes the pride of Scientists. It is therefore not uncommon to see them constantly playing with it.
