Protectors are part of the Sapiens armed elite. Their role in the city is one of the highest accessible roles, after that of Scientist. They are in charge of maintaining order and protecting the population. They also have a secondary teaching role within the military academy.
Be part of Protectorate is not given to everyone. It is rare for a child who is not from a family of Protectors to enter this environment. At the same time, military children are physically trained from an early age to take over from their parents. They integrate preparatory classes with this single objective.
At the age of ten, all children, regardless of their social class, pass a competition. At the end of this classification, they are referred to a professional academy.
At the age of sixteen, the future Protectors begin their graduate studies at a military residential school. They will pass their final assessments between eighteen and twenty years old before joining their final assignment.
Every five years, the Protector will have to pass physical and intellectual evaluations in order to evaluate his progress.
Anecdote : It is not uncommon for a Protector to follow a double curriculum, doing a few years among Student-Researchers, in order to obtain medical field skills. These are years that the future Protector has not lived well, and he will find himself in unknown territory, far from his usual supporters.
There are specificities within the Protectors:
- The Giants : the close guard of the Sapiens Federator (The Tellus),
- The Tellus Special Unit : led by Tellus'hann who only reports to the Tellus.
The big families are relatively well known. We find the Einheri, Ragn'hann, Helja families...all of which have a specific coat of arms.
All Protectors have thearmy symbol : A stylized triangle, pointed upwards representing a mountain for the Protectors. A double or triple chevron in the centre indicates membership in the Tellus special unit.
Tellus crest is particular : its combines the symbol specific to the Protectors with that of the Scientific Council's symbol. A stylized triangle rises in front of a cogwheel set like a setting sun.
