In «Neverending Story», the empress offers a grain of sand to rebuild Fantasia. Starting from the infinitely small to build something big, born of one’s own imagination.
I had a vague idea of the universe that I wanted to create and survey. A world divided between two civilisations, split after a cataclysm. I wanted to pit science against magic, technology against nature.
I didn't need more to put the first word on paper.
Grain of sand, after grain of sand, the world was born in research and daydreams. The maps were drawn, sometimes incomplete, or imprecise. I was starting from a focal point, and I extended it. From the detail to the global and not the opposite.
I welcomed the chaotic side of it. It was sometimes surprising!
Nevertheless, the world must be coherent, if not logical: even if the laws of physics are not the same and the laws of magic are their own. It’s funny to see that even if you start in the “opposite” direction, you get that result.
Currently, I am working on the second part of the saga, while enriching the world with details to make it even more lively.
The technological part is more mature, because it is central to the first volume. Depending on your interest in certain themes, I can direct the writing of articles (feel free to write to me and let me know).
For the characters, I took a point of view like a roleplayer, or an actor (my gamemaster past helped).
Put yourself in someone else’s shoes: immerse yourself in your emotions, accept your feelings and… open your eyes.
What does he see? Is it dark? Too bright? Is it the sky, trees, or huge skyscrapers rising as far as the eye can see?
What does it smell like? Rot, pus, blood? Woody, flowery fragrances? Smells of cooking, spices? Fuel?
Once this first connection done, just follow it…
Let him live his stories.
Become a shaman, and share them.
